DigiSpin

Spin the digits, find the fits.

Drag, rotate and reason your way through 250 boards — some solved in a minute, some worth sitting with.

How it works

Every digit is a shape made of bars, not a tile in a box

DigiSpin's ten pieces are shaped like the digits 0 to 9, built from bars that sit on the lines between cells, the way a seven-segment display works. Place all ten on the board, rotating each one to fit, so that no two pieces ever overlap.

How to play

The in-app rules page, reused here so the two never drift apart

Every board below is drawn at load time by a small script that reimplements the app's own digit shapes, rotation, slot math and bar geometry — so a clash, a legal pairing, a dimmed given piece and a full solution all render the same way the real app draws them.

1The goal, the board and the pieces

Place all ten digit pieces, 0 to 9, on the board so that no two of their bars occupy the same spot. Every piece can be rotated to help it fit.

The pieces sit on the lines between the board's cells. Each digit is a shape made of short bars, the same shape as a seven-segment display: 0 is the four edges of one cell, 1 is a straight line with no width, and 2 to 9 each span two cells.

A 1, a 4 and a 7, already placed — none of their bars share a spot.

2Clashes

A clash is two pieces trying to use the same bar position on the board. DigiSpin won't allow it: the move is refused, the shared bar turns solid red, and a message names the other piece already using it.

Refused: the 8 and the 4 both want the bar between them — it turns solid red.
Allowed: the 6 doesn't light that bar, so the 4 can use it with no clash.

The app's own first-time tutorial teaches this with a 7 and a 1: an upright 7 and a 1 dropped flat across it share two bars and get refused the same way.

3Controls

Drag a piece from the tray to place it on the board, or drag a piece already on the board to move it. Tap a piece in the tray to turn it a quarter turn before you place it.

Restart — sends every piece you've placed back to the tray. Undo and Redo step one move at a time. Given pieces stay where they are.

4Clues

Some pieces may already be placed and locked for you, giving you a head start — the rest is up to you to work out.

The dimmed 5 is a given — already placed and locked. The full-colour 8 is a piece you placed yourself.

5Hint

Stuck? Hint places one remaining piece exactly where the solution has it, and locks it there. It costs one of a limited number of hints, shown next to the button.

The Hint button, with hints left shown as a small number on it.

6Solutions

Some levels have more than one valid layout — finding a different one than before still counts. To see every solution you've found for a level, go to the Levels screen and hold down on it.

Finish this layout

The 8, 9, 1 and 3 are locked in place from the same solved board shown above. Tap a tray piece to pick it up, tap it again to rotate it, then tap a board cell to drop it there — place all six to solve it.

About this build

Version 1.0.0

DigiSpin is built for iPhone and iPad, with a theme that follows your device's light or dark setting and a choice of colour-blind-friendly digit palettes. It runs entirely on your device: no accounts, no network calls, no analytics. Progress, stats and settings stay local until you delete the app.
